Clare

Clare Mackey

Clare went to her first yoga class at age 14 and she has loved it ever since. Her training in acting helped establish a committed physical regime, which has evolved over the years to incorporate yoga, movement, voice and meditation. She believes that the body is a powerful tool for self-knowledge and expression and that we all have a great teacher within us that we can help to discover through regular yoga practise.

Her primary teacher has been Julian Calvo at the Eastern Suburbs Yoga School, whom she started training with in 1995. Julian has developed his own, creative form of yoga, which has given Clare an excellent foundation in strength, flexibility and balance. Never one to follow the rules, Julian blends a background in Iyengar Yoga with elements of Astanga and classical Hatha. Clare has adopted this open-minded approach to her own teaching, which is designed to free students from the trappings of the mind by placing them firmly within their own bodies.

Clare's classes are strong, inspirational and fun. She believes that we are all capable of doing much more than we tell ourselves we can do and likes to challenge her students accordingly. Her love of music means that there will usually be some funky beats to move to and she welcomes students of all levels to join her in some uplifting yogic exploration. She is thrilled to be a part of the team and to be able to share in the spectacular yoga studio that is The Living Room.
